LOKAAL X BANGS FESTIVAL

Amsterdam BANGS is a politically charged joyride here to make you laugh, flinch, cry, think, enjoy, love and rage, rage, rage against the machine! The second edition of BANGS will take place September 18-21st. On September 19th the evening program will take place at Plantage Dok in collaboration with LOKAAL. Be ready for a warm evening of food, poetry, absurd drag, musical journeys and surprises. Donations at the door go to Lokaal, and food and additional donations will go to mutual aid funds in Palestine and Kashmir. Shows will already happen there and continue into the evening

Anatomy/Autonomy by Maja Irene Bolier X Etta Harbar
Autonomy/Anatomy is a queer feminist reflection on bodily autonomy and the control of how you are perceived. It explores who holds power over the body and how it’s seen—sitting in the tension between self-determination and the external gaze. The work comes from my own experiences with dysphoria as a queer person with breasts, and from times in life when having a “female” body brought danger and discomfort. Through spoken word and costume, this performance reclaims narrative and visibility on my own terms.

‘always in some kind of trouble’ is a new experimental opera based on the iconic 1977 queer novel ‘The Faggots & Their Friends Between Revolutions’ by Larry Mitchell.
this sonic fable in three acts is a collective work in progress that will be premiering at Bangs 2025 (autonomous theater festival in Amsterdam) as an ode from present to past queers :
“let’s drink to the old faggots who were there and helped make this happen just by being there”
written for computer, voice, double bass and flûte.
